As a young lad, I played soccer every year from the time I was in kindergarten to about 6th grade (when finally, I was able to switch over to flag football at the grade school I attended). Seems like certificates for participating are more the fashion these days, but back in the ’80s, after the season ended there was an awards ceremony — and at those ceremonies they handed out trophies!
